Power back after ice storm ’13

The lights went out around noon on Monday, Dec. 23rd and never blinked back on until evening, Dec. 26th.  The whole family Christmas came off splendidly on generated power.  Many oaths were uttered by folks with no backup plan for an extended power outage, folks who will have something in place for next time.  We uttered our own oath after Hurricane Gloria in 1985.  Power was out for 7 days then, but  much worse for many others.  This was only 4 days, but even now, Mainers in Washington County, Hancock County, and parts of Penobscot County are still waiting…  We’re wishing warmth, light, and power on soon for everyone.

We cut down, dragged out of the woods, and set up an 11 foot Frasier fir yesterday during the ice storm.  It dripped for 8 hours, then we strung the lights. The deer peaking over the top is not the one that strayed my way this November.  Shelley is stringing garlands around the fireplace, and there’s my grandfather’s sleigh up high, the one he was pulled in when he was a baby in the late 1880’s!
